Day 42 - Have Mercy on Me (Psalm 51:1-19)

What do you learn from this Psalm about confessing your sins?

Have you ever experienced a sense of forgiveness for something you’ve done wrong?

What happened?

  1. I used to pray Psalm 51:10-12 until I realized what an affront to the Messiah and a dimishing of His work at the cross this was. I am as saved, righteous, cleansed and holy as I will ever be throughout eternity. The confessing of sin is only necessary to keep the flesh purified, to push Satan out of my life and to keep from being hard hearted toward the things of God. 1 Jn 1:8-10 confused me until I read the last part of verse 7 above: "the blood of Jesus purifies us from all sin." 2 Jn 2:2 also says: "He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours, but also for the sins of the whole world." This finally set me free and makes it easier to witness - "You are also forgiven, now simply receive that gift." David was still under the law, but I have been set free. I used to think some sin that I forgot about or didn't realize I had sinned or had not yet confessed right before I got hit by a bus, would cause me to wind up in hell even though I was "saved." I not only have a sense of forgiveness, but I KNOW I am forgiven.
