What have been the defining moments in your life? How have they affected you?

Have you had any defining moments with God? If so, what happened?

Crossing the Red Sea was definitely a defining moment. It is unfortunate that the people did not recognize it and grow in their relationship with the Lord.

For me a defining moment (turning point) came when I clearly heard the Lord tell me I was just lukewarm. I thought I was living a Christian life. I had made a profession of faith through the Navigator ministry while in the service. After all, I was doing a morning devotional, I was going to church and I talked like a Christian was supposed to talk (at least most of the time).

It broke my heart and I did not know what to do. I was flooded with a lot of feelings. The ones I remember the most were fear and shame. I remembered the verse in Revelation 3:15-16 (I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.) . . . Yes, I knew my Bible but it was just in my head. Like the Israelites, it was little more than an intellectual relationship.

The short story is that over the next two decades my Lord gently and tenderly loved me into a relationship with Him. I fell head over heals in love with Jesus! It has not been easy but I learned that God’s greatest blessings are those things that make us conformable not comfortable.
