We have all been wounded in one way or another. An awareness of this fact is the first step to wholeness and healing. Unfortunately we often deny the truth to ourselves or we try to rationalize it away. Also unfortunate is the fact that we often live our lives so fast and stay so busy that we don’t have time to be aware or we intentionally stay so busy so that we won’t have to feel the pain. We need to slow down and allow the Holy Spirit to speak into our souls and we need to embrace our wounds. The unexamined life if not work living. We help ourselves and others when we slow down and allow God to love us.
Marvin is absolutely correct; and one of the most difficult and dangerous outcomes of not letting the Holy Spirit deal with these hurts is hard-heartedness, which in this case leads to unforgiveness. If even the disciples were hard-hearted (Mark 6:51-52 - they were amazed at the sea being calmed, for they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened), we need to guard our hearts and allow and welcome the Holy Spirit to do His work in us.
